Course Description
Learn the biology and management of several often ignored residents of our Chesapeake Bay. I plan to cover the spawning, feeding, growth and migration of American eels, horse shoe crabs and my favorite fish. Also I plan to discuss Maryland's current harvest regulations and threats from over exploitation. Instructor: Rudolph Lukacovic Rudolph Lukacovic graduated from North Carolina State University with degrees in Wildlife Biology and Fisheries Management. I worked for Maryland Department of Natural Resources for 38 years. For the first 20-25 years he investigated fish health issues in Maryland (fish kills, parasite problems, lesions, etc.). He then conducted studies that evaluated bycatch mortality in both recreational and commercial fisheries. Finally, he finished up with studies looking into the effect of impervious surfaces on estuarine systems. Overlapping part of that time and continuing into retirement he worked as a mate on a charter boat on the Chesapeake. For the last 10 years he has been teaching outdoor education programs at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC) in Grasonville.
