Deciding the Right Thing to Do

Course Description

This course will mirror in three sessions some of the key subjects discussed in Professor Sandels famous Harvard course “What is the Right Thing To Do? " We will discuss subjects like: Is it ever right to sacrifice one's life to save many? What do we owe each other? Are there things that money shouldn't be able to buy? Can a free society avoid taking sides on what makes a good life? We will discuss our instincts of what is right and wrong. You don't need a philosophy degree to do have these discussions. You need life experience. You need the willingness to say what you think, to listen to someone who thinks differently, and to change your mind if the argument is good enough. This will be a highly interactive course. Instructor: Anthony Loscalzo Anthony Loscalzo worked as an aerospace simulation engineer. He is the author of a computer program which creates 12-hour weather predictions. He was a participant in the International Geophysical Year research project. He worked for various computer companies, including Sun Microsystems, which contributed to the creation of the Internet. He is a pilot involved with search and rescue via the Civil Air Patrol, now a subsidiary of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
