Mindful Doodling

Wednesday, 12/2 - 12/16 (3 sessions) 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center

Course Description

Did you know that doodling can be a powerful tool for brain health? It can increase concentration, enhance memory, boost creativity, and reduce stress. Doodling is drawing simple, repetitive shapes, patterns, or abstract lines where the result doesn’t represent anything. It can be spontaneous, often unconscious drawing; however, doodling can also be done mindfully where it’s more about your concentration and relaxation. Anyone can doodle. It requires no talent or special training so if you can draw dots, lines, curves and circles, you can doodle. You only need paper, pens/markers and a pencil. In class, you will learn the steps to draw several patterns and use them to create 3.5 x 3.5-inch paper tiles. We’ll review shading options to enhance your tiles and review how you can use doodles in other types of art. Instructor will provide students with a list of materials to bring to class, or they can purchase from instructor on 1st day of class. Limited to 15 participants Instructor: Teddy Griffin Fee: $2 - $7 to be collected the day of class Teddy Griffin has a B.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland and spent over 30 years in application and system programming. One of her hobbies is doodling and zen art, and she wants to share her interest with others.
