Course Description
African American History in Queen Anne’s County 1631-1870 This course will survey the deep history of African Americans in Queen Anne’s County. Starting with the establishment of the colony of Maryland and ending with the post-Civil War period, participants will learn about freedom seekers, soldiers in the Civil War and much more. Instructors: Chris Pupke / Clayton Washington Chris Pupke is a past President of the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society and a member of the Advisory Board of Kennard African American Cultural and Heritage Center. Clayton Washington is the President of the Kennard Alumni Association and oversaw the restoration of the old Kennard High School. He has co-taught this course with Chris Pupke for several years.
